Vision

Dynamic forces + Consumer demand + Competition =

Companies need to innovate to preserve and strengthen their brand and market position.

A main strategy for avoiding the market threats of commoditization and obsolescence is to differentiate products and services by economic convenience, technological performances or user experience.

On one hand, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are instrumental for reducing costs and improving functional performances.
On the other hand, Industrial Design is a key lever to optimize the user experience by providing products with new meanings and aesthetical values.

ICT and Design can deeply affect the convenience, the performances and the experience, as shown by the global trends, of service virtualization and product dematerialization.

This is why

  • Design-focused enterprises have recently added substantial elements of ICT in their products and services. Typical examples of this trend are: household appliances, lighting environments, white goods.
  • ICT-centric corporations are adding substantial concepts of industrial design in their solutions to better appeal and serve customers throughout the whole product/service lifecycle. Portable consumer devices such as mp3 players or mobile phones are just examples thereof.

ICT and Design are two complementary levers to avoid the commoditization and obsolescence in the market, producing sustainable innovation.

Innovation by bridging such different competence domains – ICT and Design – is a major global challenge that most corporations are not yet fully equipped to tackle.
Bringing multidisciplinary innovation to the market requires a major overhaul of the product/service development methodologies to ensure shortest time-to-market,
optimal quality and minimal costs. This new paradigm requires time and effort to build the necessary skills and competences.

This is IDI programs purpose: train the best managers to drive their companies ahead of competition by increasing profitability and brand equity.

The executive "Master of ICT and Design for Innovation” has the primary objective of helping companies to best execute their innovation strategies.
